CO27.   AT TIMES THERE’S ROMANCE IN THE ABANDONMENT OF BEAUTY…
CALKE ABBEY, 22 x 30, mixed media

Ken ( pictured here with Steve,  the head gardener,) has always maintained that the National Trust's Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, England, is his favorite place on earth.  The following paintings of the gardens and orangery at Calke reflect Ken's love for the place.

The baroque mansion,Calke Abbey. built 1701–4 and set in a stunning landscape park, has become famous as a graphic illustration of the English country house in decline and contains interiors that are essentially unchanged since the 1880s.
